You know what I hate even more? The idiots who say she “had nothing to be ashamed of” because she’s beautiful. As if a woman no longer gets to decide how to feel about her body and her privacy as long as it’s visually enjoyable to men. Your dick does not get to dictate how another person feels after they have been violated. End of story.

People who hate Harry Potter missed the a giant part of the story. Despite being abused by his aunt, uncle and cousin his whole life Harry was kind, compassionate, loyal, protective and honest. He defended those who needed it and stood up to those who deserved it. He didn’t become bitter or hateful. And he spent his life trying to protect others. You can’t hate him because people chose to stand by him even if it meant they’d die. He didn’t want that, he wanted everyone to live even if it meant he couldn’t anymore.

It’s because he suffered PTSD in book 5 and was mistaken for a whinny angsty teen.

  • Question: FUN STORY my old English lit tutor used Lolita as an example of an unreliable narrator. The whole novel is basically about the main character justifying his pursuit of Lolita by interpreting her innocent behaviour as sexual and adult. The fact that she comes across as so "mature" in the novel is because the main character is trying to convince himself that she is mature so he can justify his abusive behaviour. It's essentially a internal commentary of a paedophile grooming a child. - Anonymous

What really pisses me off is that Nabokov regretted writing it in the end because he kept constantly having to explain that this is what the novel was about because readers just did not get this at all.

People who think it is a love story and view Humbert as in any way sympathetic as the poor man who “gave into his dark desires” worry me immensly.

people are terrible and bad at literature

People are pretty good at bending over backwards to paint rapists as sympathetic though

I may always reblog every gifset/imageset I see of this scene, if only to point out (over and over and over again) that Black Widow’s “very specific skillset” is not, actually, ass-kicking (as amazing as she is at that), because all the Avengers can kick ass to a pretty high degree. The Black Widow’s superpower (as it were) is emotional manipulation.

She is not interrogating this man not while tied to a chair. She is tied to a chair because that is exactly where she wants to be, because apparent vulnerability on her part is part of her interrogation. She uses the exact same trick on Loki later, when she leads him into gloating over having successfully pushed her buttons (and I have a theory that he did actually push her buttons, that she was genuinely distressed by the things he said to her because Loki is old enough and smart enough to know when someone is lying to him) and turns his gloating around on him, uses it to dig into the cracks of him, because that is what she does, and she can do it even when her target is expecting it. (Really, Loki knows that’s why she’s there. He was expecting to be physically tortured first, and for her to come be sympathetic later, if you recall, but Loki and Widow both know that wouldn’t work.)

And this is why she’s so unsettled by the Hulk. The Black Widow relies on emotional manipulation — and the Hulk, to the best of her knowledge, only has varying shades of a single emotion: anger. She doesn’t know how to manipulate a creature if it doesn’t have all the hooks to emotions like pride and lust and guilt and greed that she’s used to using.

This is a REALLY good character analysis of Natasha.

"Consensual sex" is just sex. To say that implies that there is such a thing as "non consensual sex", which there isn’t. That’s rape. That is what it needs to be called. There is only sex or rape. Do not teach people that rape is just another type of sex. They are two very separate events. You wouldn’t say "breathing swimming" and "non breathing swimming", you say swimming and drowning.

This is a very good point.
